Fire and heat is remarkably important in Fedran. It is the first of the reactionals but it is also the basis for the Farimon Chambers and steam engines.
I liked the idea that we have a world where mages were getting more and more complex, splitting hairs on how energy works and crafting more expansive and powerful spells, but then the next age came from the most basic of concepts.
Also, I wanted to create a magical steampunk world and this is how I decided to do it.
It also lets me show a difference in magical systems where one considers all fire to be under the same category, but another treats them as related but independent forms of magic.
