I don't like clean answers in my fiction.
It might sound strange, but I don't want anyone to ever know the exact system for how magic works, how long the day actually is, or precise levels of details.
Instead, I want there to be people out there that are absolutely sure they know the one true answer and they are horribly wrong, but they are so emotionally and personally involved that they are incapable of seeing their failures.
Because of that, there are (will be) many conflicting magical systems in the world. They are built on top of each other, slowly evolving through the centuries as folks try one thing and then the other.
